Performance and Off-Road Capabilities
The Ranger Raptor is equipped with a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine, delivering 405 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque. This powerful engine, combined with a sophisticated suspension system featuring Fox Live Valve Internal Bypass shocks, ensures excellent performance on challenging terrains. The suspension system has been significantly upgraded, offering increased travel and improved damping for various driving modes, including Normal, Tow/Haul, Sport, Slippery, OJ-Road, Rock Crawl, and Baja. The Raptor's ground clearance of 10.7 inches and advanced undercarriage armour provide further protection and capability for off-road adventures.
Interior and Technology
Inside, the Ranger Raptor boasts a luxurious and well-equipped cabin, contrasting with its rugged exterior. It features electrically adjustable, heated leather seats, a 12-inch portrait infotainment system running on Ford's Sync 4A software, and a premium 10- speaker Bang & Olufsen stereo system. The interior is designed with high-quality materials and thoughtful accents, offering a refined experience compared to the standard Ranger.
Practicality and Cost
Despite its many strengths, the Ranger Raptor is not without drawbacks. It is priced around $56,900 which is equivalent to KES 7,400,000 pre-tax, making it more expensive than some competitors in its class. Additionally, its fuel economy is relatively poor, with the V6 model achieving around 20.4 mpg in official tests and even lower in real-world off-road conditions. The payload capacity is limited to 652 kg, which does not meet the criteria for classification as a light commercial vehicle in some regions, affecting its tax benefits.
